New Productions & Repertory Works Opening
Beyond Black | The Rite of Spring
Shin Changho | Ahn Sungsoo
Korea National Contemporary Dance Company’s 10th Anniversary 2020 season begins with the performance Opening,
a double bill composed of a new production created by the choreographer Shin Changho, Beyond Black, and KNCDC’s featured repertory work The Rite of Spring by Ahn Sungsoo.
From suggestions to questions on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), the performance evokes the past and the future simultaneously.
Beyond Black
Beyond Black explores new efforts in AI choreography. Drawing on the contrast from the bodies of the dancers, representing a storehouse containing an immense amount of time experienced from the past; and on AI that functions on that expansive data, the performance lays out its creations in current space and time.
The Rite of Spring
The Rite of Spring illustrates Russian pagan offerings in prayer for bountiful land through dance movements that are at times expressed with intricate elegance and at times fanatical. With the reversed idea of the priestess offering a healthy man as the sacrifice, the blend of primitive energy and delicate dance movements create an explosive performance.
