Choreo Connection
Choreo Connection, presented by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, is a project that spotlights the experimental practices and contemporary perspectives of choreographers working across regional communities. Since its launch in 2024, Choreo Connection has showcased a range of distinctive works. The 2026 edition features choreographers Kim Yujin, Shin Seungmin, and Lee Namyoung, inviting audiences to encounter new movements and sensibilities in their choreographic work. Through the distinct languages of relationships, order, and breath, these works reveal processes of transformation and emergence within the body, unsettling familiar perceptions and inviting new moments of connection.

The moment we believe we are thinking, the body is already in motion.
Countless influences from outside the body accumulate without a trace, shaping sensation and at times inhabiting the body itself. META:SOMA follows this body, focusing on its shifting movements and changing states. There is no perfect balance—only a continual process of collapse, reassembly, and transformation into new states.
How does chance disrupt structure, and how does structure in turn govern chance?
Chance sparks new possibilities, while structure repeats and expands them, generating new forms of order. The body’s spontaneous impulses and rigid structures overlap and collide, forming collective patterns. Through this process, unpredictable rules self-organize, revealing new orders of movement.
Mu-Breath is not a dance about breathing. Rather, it is a performative apparatus that uses breath as a medium to continuously reorganize the conditions that make dance possible—time, attention, center, and the order of perception. Here, breath functions not merely as a physiological mechanism that supports movement, but as an event that structures time on stage, generates relationships, and disrupts established divisions of perception. While conventional dance is often organized around visible movement, Mu-Breath brings to the foreground the underlying conditions that make movement possible: breath, rhythm, subtle tremors, the pressure just before stillness, the delay of an inhale, and the collapse of an exhale. Rather than interpreting what is being expressed, the audience is invited to experience what is taking place on stage (event), what becomes possible (operation), and what new relationships emerge (changing conditions).

Kim Yujin earned both a B.A. and an M.A. in Performing Arts and Dance from Chosun University, where he also performed as a principal dancer with the university-affiliated Gwangju Modern Dance Company. Exploring the emotions, relationships, and human condition of individuals living in contemporary society through movement, Kim currently leads KYJ Dance Project and continues an active choreographic practice based in Jeonnam-Gwangju. His major works include The Shell, Eden, and Paradise, earning multiple awards at the Korea Dance Festival and the Gwangju Dance Festival. Guided by questions perceived through the body in a rapidly changing environment, Kim closely investigates the relationships among the stage, technology, and the body. Through this exploration, he seeks to evoke personal reflections and create space for contemplation.
Shin Seungmin spent ten years as a professional dancer with the Daegu City Dance Company, Korea’s first publicly funded contemporary dance company, building a strong foundation of stage experience. Grounded in a movement practice that is both powerful and fluid, Shin has focused on developing a distinctive physical language as an independent choreographer since leaving the company. Major choreographic works include The Soul of the Sun, The Meaningful Body, and Ceremony. Through appearances at dance festivals and performance platforms in Korea and abroad, he has established a distinctive choreographic voice. Beginning with the fundamental question of how diverse forms of bodily movement can be realized within performance space, Shin continues to explore new possibilities for contemporary physical expression.
Lee Namyoung is the lead choreographer of Ambisoma Dance Group (formerly LNYdance group). Grounded in an exploration of the materiality and performativity of the dancing body, their work seeks to translate these inquiries into the language of contemporary dance aesthetics. Their practice does not reduce the locality of the Gyeonggi region to a mere periphery of Seoul. Instead, it approaches the region as a liminal space where tradition and contemporaneity, reason and affect, human and nonhuman intersect, generating new corporeal languages. Drawing on the tensions and dynamics that emerge from this borderland locality, they explore the body's potential as a site where different orders and modes of perception collide and coexist. Major works include Didida, The Archaeology of the Body, and Panopticon. Recipient of the PAF Choreography Award, they continue to present new creations on stages in Korea and internationally, earning recognition for both artistic excellence and choreographic achievement.
